Daycare Based ABA Services

Individualized ABA therapy services in Daycare settings!

Daycare-based ABA therapy allows an ABA therapist to provide individualized support within your child's existing childcare environment rather than requiring them to attend therapy in a separate clinic setting. The works alongside daycare staff during the regular childcare day, embedding therapeutic goals into naturally occurring activities such as circle time, snack, free play, outdoor play, transitions, and group learning opportunities.

This approach helps children develop communication, social, play, self-help, and behavioral skills in the environment where they use those skills every day. By practicing skills with peers and caregivers in real-life situations, children often have more opportunities to generalize and maintain meaningful progress. Daycare-based ABA also promotes collaboration between therapists, families, and daycare staff to support consistency across settings and maximize each child's success.

What does a Daycare Based ABA Session Look Like?

Each child's therapy plan is individualized based on their strengths, needs, and goals. During a session, the ABA therapist may provide support with peer interactions, communication opportunities, classroom participation, following routines, transitioning between activities, and developing independence throughout the day.

The therapist collects data, implements behavior support strategies, and works toward treatment goals under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). The BCBA regularly reviews progress, updates goals as needed, and collaborates with caregivers and daycare staff to support consistent implementation across environments.

How to Get Started with Daycare-Based ABA Services

Setting up daycare-based ABA services involves coordination between your family, your ABA provider, your daycare, and your insurance provider. The process typically includes the following steps:

1. Complete the Initial Assessment Process

Your BCBA will complete the assessment process, develop an individualized treatment plan, and submit the necessary information to your insurance provider for authorization.

2. Communicate with Your Daycare Provider

Before services begin, schedule a meeting with your daycare director or staff. This is an opportunity to explain the role of the RBT, how ABA services will fit into the daycare routine, and how the team can work together to support your child.

If your daycare has questions or concerns, your BCBA can help provide information and explain how services are designed to support your child's participation in the childcare setting.

3. Coordinate a BCBA and Daycare Meeting

Your BCBA should connect with the daycare team before services begin. This meeting allows the BCBA to review your child's goals, explain how the RBT will support your child, and discuss strategies that can be used throughout the day.

4. Begin with a Transition Period

The first sessions often focus on building rapport, learning the daycare environment, and helping your child become comfortable with the new routine. As your child adjusts, therapy gradually increases toward the full treatment schedule recommended by the BCBA.

Every child’s start-up process looks a little different, but collaboration between families, providers, and daycare staff helps create a successful experience.
